Katie was born in Logan, Utah but was raised in both Utah and Nevada. Katie received her bachelors of science in Neuroscience from the University of Nevada, Reno where she was a student athlete on their soccer team. Katie worked as a surgical technician in Reno for 2 years before returning to Utah to be close to her family. She decided to go back to school originally for nursing but fell in love with social work while working as a case manager at a residential treatment facility for women with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health disorders. Katie finished her second bachelors of science degree at the University of Utah in human development and family studies and continued on to the masters of social work program.
She did her first year practicum at Project Reality where she worked with individuals suffering from substance use disorders. She also had worked as a psychiatric technician at the University Neuropsychiatric Institute on an adult acute unit. She has been a volunteer sexual assault advocate for the Rape Recovery Center for the past 4 years. She finished her second year practicum at the University of Utah Women’s Resource Center where she practiced trauma informed therapeutic modalities with a primary focus on Feminist Multicultural Therapy.
Katie loves to spend time with her kitties, travel, volunteer, kayak, and go to Real Salt Lake soccer games. She intends to use her social work degree and experience at the Women’s Resource Center to do advocacy work for women’s equality here in Utah and at the federal level. She continues to practice individual therapy models that are client-centered, trauma informed, and strengths based.
